Ariana Weckstein - “Eulogy” (CUPSI 2012)

"See, I have a habit of speaking in safe words. Like "bless you" when someone sneezes, or "I’m good" when someone asks how I am, or "normal stuff" when someone asks what kind of porn I’m into."

A couple of times a week, we’ll be posting some of the older and less-seen videos from the Button YouTube, from before we really had a following (and before we knew how to film things). This is one of the most enjoyable, frank, and honest poems we saw at CUPSI 2012.

Wesleyan University - “Twenty-Something” (CUPSI 2012)

"Crafts a convenient self-portrait. Hand picks every color. Measures every stroke. Does not even notice the paint on his hands."

A couple of times a week, we’ll be posting some of the older and less seen videos from the Button YouTube, from before we really had a following. This is Team Wesleyan from 2012 College Nationals, performing an awesome group piece. They won Best Writing by a Team that year, and it’s pretty clear why.

Karly Fesolowich - “A Letter to Alexander Graham Bell from His Deaf Wife, Mabel”

"Saying the words ‘I do’ without ever hearing them is like carrying a stranger’s child."

A couple of times a week, we’ll be posting some of the older and less seen videos on the Button YouTube, from before we really had a following. This is the first video we ever posted, from CUPSI 2012, and it remains one of our favorite poems on the channel.

Abbie Shain: “Isaac”

Abbie Shain competed with the Macalester slam team at CUPSI for the first time this year. Next year, she will be taking over as president of the Macalester slam, and continuing its growth and legacy as one of the premier college slams in the nation. Her poem “Isaac”, performed during semifinals, was the runner-up for Best Poem at CUPSI.

"Twenty Something"

Awarded Best Writing by a Team CUPSI 2012

"Twenty Something" is one of those rare pieces that makes you laugh and really think. As a result, it is an absolute pleasure to watch. The Wesleyan program has really set it’s sights on producing work that is a step above and the result is clear.
